Echoscope-FL has a number of underlying
key design elements that enable the 3D sonar to offer far
better performance than conventional forward looking sonars.
In addition to the standard features which a conventional
forward looking sonar can produce, Echoscope-FL is able
to offer:
- Acquisition and display of full 3D
view of the volume in front of the vehicle for each ping
transmitted (up to 90 x 40 degrees), with range and intensity
images created real-time
- High angular resolution in both vertical
and horizontal directions, allowing target localization
in elevation, as well as the azimuth and range localization
provided by conventional sector scan systems
- Display of multi-plane sector scan
data, allowing sector scan data for planes above and below
the vehicle to be viewed
- Pitch, roll and yaw corrected sonar
data, so that images are obtained for the direction of
travel, rather than the current attitude of the vehicle
- Improved surveillance of the volume
close to the vehicle, where coverage from conventional
sector scans is limited
- Simultaneous production of the various
image/data products available from the sonar (3D, multi-plane
sector scan, conventional sector scan)
- Storage and retrieval of up to 24 hours
of 3D data for post-mission analysis
- Automated mine and target object detection
