Coda Echoscope is a unique, patented technology delivering high
resolution 3D images underwater in real time. Originally developed
by Omnitech of Norway, now part of CodaOctopus, Echoscope employs
highly innovative multi-element transducer design, high speed
digital signal processing, advanced sonar beam forming techniques
and intuitive image display software and outperforms all other
imaging sonar systems.
Able to ensonify 3D volumes up to 50 x 50 degrees at ranges of
up to 200m, Echoscope generates instantaneous 3D imagery comprising
over 16,000 focussed beams (128 x 128 beam array) with a range
resolution of 1cm. With up to 20 updates per second, Echoscope
can be used for real-time monitoring of live sub sea engineering
operations and excels where conventional 2D sonars fail to deliver.
Suitable for hull mount, over-the-side mount or ROV installation,
Echoscope can be deployed quickly from vessels of opportunity,
for rapid but highly accurate underwater survey.

Applications include:
Obstacle detection and avoidance
Structure inspection
Diver detection
Harbour surveillance
Construction monitoring and measurement
Pipeline inspection
Bridge scour inspection
Trenching operation monitoring
Pipe and cable lay monitoring
Under-hull inspection (integrity, security and customs)
Much work has been done with various defense
bodies in the US involving Echoscope, mainly coordinated through
the University of South Florida (USF), who have been appointed
government/military experts to consider the technology and its
applications in the US, particularly for defense applications.
CodaOctopus recently became the first company to successfully
map and reference a complete ship hull, causing a huge amount
of interest within all the relevant bodies in the US. In addition
to winning a defense bid for a Forward Looking Obstacle Avoidance
Sonar based on Echoscope, a number of Echoscope systems have also
been sold in the US, Japan and Europe.
